Men who have been knocked out in a fight, what was it like?

  1. Long story short, my cousin bounced my head off the concrete like 4 times before I went unconscious, I wanna say this would have been 3 or 4 in the afternoon, mid-summer. I came to, it was night time, I was in excruciating pain in a puddle of my own coagulated blood, pissed and shit myself while I was out, vomited like crazy after I woke. Then I got my ass kicked again for getting up. 0/10 do not recommend.

Edit: thanks all for the well wishes everyone. I think I’m alright. No, we’re not cool, yes he’s in prison, no, he’s not in prison for that.

  2. I’ve been knocked out many times. It’s like a quick blackout, you might see a flash or something, then you have to reorientate.. get up,…etc. when you know enough about brain trauma and beeing unconscious…you know “oh damn I got KO’d” but if you don’t know you might actually don’t realize you was knocked down and people tell you later, you just black out and pop right up

The least thing you feel is pain

  3. I’ve only been knocked down a few times: it’s a feeling of disorientation, poor coordination, and having your eyes crossed. I guess I was just lucky I never got knocked out.

Guys, whenever someone’s trying to pick a fight with you on the street, always check your surroundings. You usually get sucker-punched from the side or behind—the person standing in front of you is just a distraction.

  4. It was only once but I was working I had recently got married and my wife’s ex-husband came into our home business and started harassing us. He was obviously jealous that our new business had taken off so quickly and he was only allowed supervised visits with his kids because of his history of violence while in the military and the fact that his kids want nothing to do with him because he was always deployed and never knew them.

Anyways, he comes to our thriving horse insemination factory and just starts screaming at us. We are both fist deep in horse meat trying to get their essence into these jars. I’m a gentleman so I want to make sure to collect my horses sample before dealing with him but he knocks me out cold first. I had a dream about swimming in blood and then Mel Gibson is there covered in blood screaming. I woke up to find my wife using these horses as fire hoses against her ex and he was so grossed out he left.

Last I heard he was buying hamburgers from McDonald’s and standing outside our local Subaru factory trying to sell them out of his van as homemade burgers.

  5. Going through basic training (Army) you have two weeks of combatives, which is jiu-jitsu adjacent. We were learning the rear naked choke and after lights out, a bunch of us were bored and decided to practice on each other. That led to “hey, who hasn’t been knocked out before?” Long story short, about 20 of us sat in a line and took turns putting eachother to sleep.

Not sure about getting punched out, but I can tell you getting choked out is like falling asleep. One second you’re awake, the next thing you know you’re waking up. A properly executed blood choke will render you unconscious in less than 5 seconds. It honestly felt like coming out of the best power nap ever for me lol. I’m sure experiences vary.

  6. A sudden flash of light, followed by a loud bang, plunged everything into darkness. After a moment, light returned, accompanied by a feeling of grogginess.

  7. Wasn’t a fight but playing hockey. Some guy blindsided me and he was massive. I was probably only 12 or 13 so sizes ranges were massive then.

For me I just kinda woke up on the ice, looked up to see my mom concerned by the glass, and thinking “oh what I need to get to the bench this is embarrassing”. I then played the rest of the game like nothing happened lol. I think I was only out for like 8 seconds or something.

  8. I got knocked out with a spinning back fist during sparring years ago.

It was literally like dimming the lights, my legs went and I crashed to the floor.

  9. Got sucker punched on a sidewalk one night after some guys drove past and called my girlfriend a C**T. When I flipped them off they turned around and one guy got out and popped me. I dont remember getting hit, just remember waking up on the sidewalk with my girlfriend screaming at the guy. Was not a fun experience. Wasn’t painful and I didn’t have any issues down the road from it.

  10. I got blindsided by an out of control guy on a snowboard. I didn’t hear or see anything coming and the next thing I know, BANG! I woke up on my back looking at beautiful blue sky and spit out a piece of my tooth. Massive headache the rest of the day.

  11. A guy was harassing me for a smoke, I eventually told him to fuck off. He pulled a knife. I stood my ground. I was ready for him to try and stab me but he hit me with a left hook instead. It was like instantly falling asleep. You’re just there then youre not. I woke up in the hospital after what felt like a second. It had been a few hours.

  12. Never been knocked out, but had the shit knocked out of me. I can confirm that you see a flash and sometimes your ears ring when hit hard enough.

  13. I’m a lover not a fighter but almost blacked out after the girl from Kazakhstan gave me a bj. she knew what she was doing.

  14. Did boxing and MMA like junior year of HS. I had a mouth on me and I talked a lot of shit. I was able to back it up too. Till dude 3 years older than me took me up on my callout. Could not for the life of me actually land a hit. Mf was like a snake. It was prob 10 min in and I was exhausted. Saw the kick coming and I couldn’t react in time. Too gassed. Shit felt like getting flashbanged in CoD and then lights out. I was out for like 11s ? Lol

  15. Never knocked out but choked out a few times sparring. You don’t even realize it until later. As I was coming back around the first time it happened I remember thinking I was waking up in my bed to get ready for school and then I was wondering why all these people were standing in my bedroom. You are very disoriented at first but once you orientate on where you are at it all comes back quickly.

  16. Ive always wondered this, ive taken punches but no knock outs.. someone told me once its almost like blinking, you see the punch coming get hit, blink and youre on the floor. Is that about right?

  17. In school when unsupervised we would take boxing gloves and have friendly fights. The only time i got ko’d it was a strike on the side of my head. I closed my eyes and next thing I know I was on the floor.

  18. I haven’t been knocked out but did the knocking out and after the first few, I stopped thinking I killed the person. I grew up in a very rough environment with rough circumstances, it was survival.

  19. Your vision shrinks to a point of light and next thing you know you’re awake on the floor. No sense of the passage of time.

  20. I’ve been knocked out in fights about 3 times, one other time I passed out shortly after being stabbed in the face but I don’t think it really counts as a knockout so I’ll leave it aside.

Getting knocked out doesn’t really feel like anything per se, as it’s impossible to directly remember the event. Rather, you wake up dazed and confused, often with no immediate idea as to where you are and how you got there, and at varying speeds the memories fragmentedly reform in your head.

In my experience, you effectively only experience these memories only after you regain consciousness, which leads to this weird chronological disorder of memories of things you know you experienced before only existing after the fact. It’s like A, B, C, D, but now the placement in your head is A, C, B, D but the B is craggy and fragmented and often not 100% complete.

The memory of being knocked out in itself is usually quite immaterial, often it’s just a vague recollection of the lead-up to the events, with the actual point of contact being absent, or as others have described it “as things turning dark”.

  21. My older brother punched me out once before school, I fell on the ground and hit my head. Don’t remember much but when I got up my mother was screaming at him. I went to school w a black eye then got called down to the office because they thought my parents hit me… lol. Nope just my brother 😂😂😂

  22. Like you’re missing time. Think being woken up from a deep sleep, without knowing you’ve slept. One second it’s “thing”, next second it’s sky and confusion.

  23. You black out. It’s very disorienting once you regain consciousness, and it takes some time for your body to react to anything.

There isn’t any particular pain but you do feel like you got bludgeoned pretty hard. The pain comes later, and you might get nauseous enough to vomit.

Even though you may not actually feel any pain, your body and brain both know it does NOT want that to happen again.

  24. I got jumped by 3 guys as a teenager. I don’t remember being knocked out, exactly. just getting beat while on the ground and then suddenly they were gone and the blows I had taken felt less fresh.

my memory after that is in bits an pieces, but based on the timeline of when I last knew what time it was and when/where I was found later, I couldn’t have been out long.

  25. I was never knocked out in a fight, I did get knocked out crashing my bike though. Did an endo and I remember it being like a flash, it was like a blink that I was conscious of and then woke up on the ground. It was probably 30-35 years ago now and I remember it clear as day

  26. Sudden and unexpected. We were in a club, me and a bunch of work colleagues, just gone for a beer or three. There was the usual music, which suddenly stopped, and then this fat ugly comedian appeared and started telling these incredibly lame jokes. Everybody started booing him, shouting ‘get off! and suchlike. One of the guys I was with, my boss actually, shouted something – can’t remember what – then one of the comics’ minders came over to us, took his pint off him and poured it over him. Then it kicked off. Last thing I remembered was this huge, ugly, angry bastard with a broken nose standing right in from of me drawing his arm back and Boom! The lights went out! I came to a few seconds later, on the deck, with the clubs bouncers grabbing all of us by the collars. My head was ringing, I couldn’t focus and had lost control of limbs. Next thing I knew we were all thrown out into the street in the rain. I’d got blood streaming down my face from a cut on my cheek and just couldn’t stand up. I don’t know how but we ended up in the local A&E, waiting for hours to get seen. I had an X-ray – broken cheek bone. Huge black eye for ages afterwards. He must have really clobbered me. Didn’t much care for the experience.

  27. As a teanager, I knocked myself out by jumping headfirst into an Ibeam, then falling 10 feet and smashing the back of my head on the corner of a concrete step.

The world went black. Apparently I popped right back up in less than a second. But, if someone told me I had been out for hours, I would have believed them.

Had headaches for the next few weeks and I’m pretty sure I fractured my skull(I can still feel the imprint from where it happened 30 years later).

Because I am team old-school. I simply pretended I was fine and immediately carried on with life.

  28. Almost 20 years ago now, I was in a really bad bar fight. This moron approached my (now ex) gf while I was in the bathroom. I came out and she and he were arguing, he was acting like a wild animal. I told him to move along and then he started shit with me. The bar threw him out (this was around 10pm I think). We left around 1am and I don’t remember walking out the door. Apparently he’d been waiting in the parking lot (for 3 hours) with a board or a log of some sort. The second I walked outside, he hit me in the side of the face, fracturing my orbital socket.

The first thing I remember was waking up, he was on top of me, punching my face. I could see behind him, my gf was on his back, clawing at him and he threw her off of him. I put my left arm out to try and stop him – it’s all a blur, but I remember me on my back and getting absolutely pummeled, my arm pushed into his shoulder and all of a sudden I felt this “pop!”. He immediately groaned and sort of rolled off of me. At that point, it was on, I climbed on top of him and hit him several times in the face, before two of the bouncers from the bar I guess finally heard the commotion and pulled me off of him. If there weren’t people there to break it up, I am 100% convinced one of us would have died that night.

The cops showed up and took him to jail, but also took me to jail (the bouncers, who initially said they saw the whole thing and would help me, told the cops they also saw me hit him). They also took his friend to jail (I guess he kicked me in the face while I was out) and took my gf to jail for scratching this guy’s face.

I honestly don’t remember much of the fight, none of getting knocked out. I’d imagine the entire thing, from the time I walked out, to the bouncers pulling me off of him, was maybe around a minute – what I do remember is all a blur. I’ve been in many fights growing up, but that was by far the worst and the only time I’ve ever been knocked out.

He and I both had to go to the ER, before jail. That’s where I found out about my orbital socket – the entire right side of my face was black and completely swelled shut. The pop I felt, I guess I broke his collarbone. The ER Doc told me I’d heal just fine, but that he’d have lasting injuries – he may have just been saying that to make me feel better, as I was zip-tied, black and blue and being fed through an MRI Machine.

It turned out that he’d been released from jail earlier that day for fighting. He had a record of 30-40 arrests, everything from fighting to armed robbery, stolen cars, burglary, assaults, credit card fraud, you name it.

In the end, both my and my gf’s charges were dropped – he (supposedly) was sentenced to 6 months in jail (ABHAN), but he didn’t show up to court while we were there, so I have no idea. I tracked him for several years after – every time I’d google him, I’d find a new mugshot. That all ended a couple years back, I googled him and saw a new picture – clicked it and it was his obituary. No idea how he died, but good riddance – the world’s a better place without him in it.

  29. I’ve been in a few fights, even hit with an object at the back if my head, never knocked out from fights so far.

But I’ve been knocked out by a girl friend when I was like 14-15. We were like a couple of friends playing a stupid games when you cover your eyes and try to catch the person. She was moving her foot up high, caught me off guard and put me to sleep for a minute or two. Woke up confused

  30. I was knocked in a mosh pit. One minute I was picking up headphones, then I woke up on the floor

  31. Marines 2015, went to a bar in CA.

Saw some dudes I had gone to CPL course with. Went to go talk to them drunk.

One of the guys was infantry who was getting out in a couple months and was having one last hoorah. He didn’t like that I was drunk and interrupted his coversation. He pushed me and I pushed him back because I thought he was being playful, so not a fight. Soon as I found out he wasn’t playing I went to walk away and that’s when I woke up with a chipped left front tooth, in handcuffs, and having an officer ask “You good?”

That was the last thing I remember before waking up in my bed. Apparently I had gone to the hospital, been picked up by my friends, and then brought back to the barracks. I have no memory of any of that.

Dude waited for me to walk down the block before running up and sucker punching me. He left CA and then was charged with a felony. Forced to quit his job, come back and spend 3 months in jail. 4 years later, the DA called me and told me that he just went back to court to get his felony expunged and asked if I would like to weigh in on the trial. I declined because I didn’t want the felony to follow him for the rest of his life.

So yeah not a fight but I was definitely knocked. Kind of feels like seeing flashes of color when you get his really hard. The impact obviously makes you confused and it’s hard to think about anything except the searing pain. Once you finally come to though, you are easily disoriented and anxious about what happened. 0/10 don’t recommend.

  32. Passed out from heat once. Not a fight knockout but it was like I blacked out briefly and I came to seconds after hitting the ground.

Felt sort of like someone unplugged me lol. I just got hot and was like, “something is about to happen” but your mind is still like nahhh..then I fell. Woke up a several feet from where I was and it was like I was plugged in again. No pain. I was sort of calm actually as though I’d woken from a nap.

  33. Happened twice.

Once as a kid when I was playing football at night.
I just heard a woosh sound a flashing light and then woke up on the towers block stairwell with a bunch of my friends around me. Turns out someone kicked the ball straight in the face.

2nd time was as an adult after a night out, I was sitting on a bench wjth a friend, bith drunk enjoying a kebab.
Heard some noises turned to see two big guys and my friend onthe floor, stood up, got headbutted, again just a flashing light, fell on my hand and sprayed my wrist, got up instantly after I hit the dirt, dudes just walked off, only noticed my wrist is fucked next morning.

    You don’t feel anything.

  34. I wasn’t knocked out, but when wrestling, I was on the ground and the opponent landed on me. I ended up farting really loud due to the sudden weight on my stomach. It reverberated throughout the facility. My coach was purple faced trying to stop from laughing. It was the most embarrassing moment of my life.
