Remembered this video from a South African comedian: Trevor Noah Responds to French Ambassador Gérard Araud's Criticism | The Daily Show

I'm Asian American. There's shit you have to deal with but I love being able to celebrate different identities. Depending on who I'm with, I can be American, asian american, viet, viet american, etc. Life moving around venn diagrams. With American politics today, when I'm in Europe, I'm just Vietnamese lol.

The French ambassador says there's no hyphenated identities in France. Why?

Is there a day to celebrate Turkish culture in Germany, Indian culture in England, Algerians in France, etc?

I didn't realize it when I visited them but even my relatives in other EU countries don't maintain hyphenated identities. Gonna debate this over drinks next time.
