I didn’t know it at the time, but one of the neighbours of my Father’s cousins in the Isle of Wight had been in the Einsatzgruppen, when I met him as a very old man and he was nothing but kind.
The cousin didn’t know that he had been in that, but did know that he had been in the German military. He once asked the neighbour if he ever feared being recognised but he said in response “I have a rifle with which I am an excellent shot and (laughs) their noses are very hard to miss.”
So yeah, un PC to say the least.
