TLDR;
Is it bad to spend Xmas apart if you’ve been dating for a year and live together if one of you wants to be with their parent?
End tldr;

My parter and I have been dating for a bit over a year and recently moved in together. Both our families live relatively close, like within driving distance but his parents really can’t make it to our place.
I suggested each gets a holiday, thanksgiving and Xmas and his parents chose Xmas. So we’d go to my mom’s (I don’t talk to my dad) on thanksgiving and we’d go to his parents on Xmas.

The trouble I’m having with this is my mom expressed sadness that she’ll be alone on Xmas. Her parents have passed, I’m an only child, and she’s very distant from her siblings. So while I’m surrounded by my partners family she’ll be alone which really makes me sad. She’s my mom after all.

Is is uncouth for me to tell my partners I’d prefer to stay home while he visits his parents on Xmas?
