How to make a conversation/friends in pubs or gigs?

I like to go metal gigs and pubs but always alone and i don't know how to talk to people. How to approach somebody? And how to keep them? I want to make some long term frieds bc. i never had one. (sorry for my bad englis, i'm hungarian)
