Just quickly, here is what happened:
Once upon a time on Reddit, my online friend (we've been friends for 4 years) blocked me, BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET HIS PERMISSION TO ASK HIM ABOUT HIS ACCOUNT. That was his actual argument. First, he asked me how I found his account, and I just kept joking like 'a magician never tells his secret' blah blah. And he got serious and said that it was "problematic" to find his account (or any other social account) without asking him. I kept joking like 'not if you're a girl' yada yada yada. He told me, "do you wanna get blocked?" I got confused, then he blocked me. The thing is, it wasn’t even like he had something personal going on with his usage of Reddit — he was on regular subreddits like anime and university advice. The other thing is that when you open a Reddit account you need to acknowledge that it’s gonna be only PUBLIC. No privacy, no "I wanna control who gets to see my online status" bullshit. And I know I got this OSINT hobby like Joe Goldberg stalking your window to find out your taste in panties. I just like randomly looking up people on the internet. I happened to find his Reddit account and said hello. He hasn’t written to me for 5 months. I didn’t check on him too. We didnt unfollow each other or anything like that.
You see, my intention was just to ask him how he was doing, totally harmless. I think people have become too sensitive/childish and they think they can avoid any tiny situation by blocking instead of actually facing it. Anyway.
My question: am I being Intrusive or too careless by crossing his boundaries, or is he an insecure control freak?
