Parked in a residential area for a few hours, no signs to say it's private land or no parking or permit holders only, come back to it and someone's stuck this on there. It's really stuck on as well and has left a lot of white sticky paper on my windshield so I want to know if I'm somehow in the wrong or if my cars just been vandalized.

  1. No, not legally binding.

Technically *they* have broken the law in vandalising your property, though I doubt the police would get involved over some sticky residue on a windscreen.

But you are 100% legally in the right, they’re in the wrong.

But just in the interest of fairness, do consider where you might have parked. If it *is* private land then while it is up to them to signpost or control access (a fence, a gate, bollards, etc) you are technically committing trespass, though that is a civil offence, not criminal.

You might also be blocking somewhere, or parking inconsiderately.

  2. There’s no legal comment on that sticker to *be* binding. But even if there were – no, it wouldn’t be, unless it was a notice that they were charging you a contractual parking fee in accordance with appropriate relevant signs.

Sometimes you get crap like this on regular, non-private-property roads. But if you *are* parking on someone else’s private property (and could reasonably know that) then you’re being a bit of a dick. Not that that sounds like the case from what you’ve said.

  3. Unenforceable, but….

Were you parked on the public highway, or a private bit of land?

    Do you park there regularly?

If its a public road, ie one that’s adopted, then report it to the Police as vandalism

If its private land then you could report it, but probably not worth bothering with

If you regularly park there and its private land and the park elsewhere

Tip, get a dashcam that records when you are away from your vehicle, ie when it detects motion

  4. It’s not legally binding because it doesn’t actually require moose anything on you, it just gives you information and perhaps threatens future action. Suggestions as to what may happen if you park there again can’t bind you to anything.

  5. Are you asking if stickers bought on Temu have legal authority in the UK? Of course they don’t.

  6. An enforcement company would have ticketed or towed you. They don’t do polite warnings. There’s no money in it

  7. Just some Karen/Nigel who thinks she/he owns the public roads around her/his house.

  8. No. I often see ‘vehicles will be clamped if parked here’ on private land which isn’t at all legal either. I think it used to be but was changed quite some time ago.

I mean same with signs ‘trespassers will be prosecuted’ on private land no, they won’t.

Not that I’m condoning parking or trespassing on private land, but just people put unenforceable signs out like this all the time.

  9. No, just some neighborhood watch cretin with too much time twitching their curtains.

I’d threaten them to claims for causing damage to the car with the sticker

  10. Binding to what? It doesn’t specify anything barring ‘further action’, because it’s a homemade sticker made by a grumpy bastard.

  11. Not sure as to the hate towards the resident. We’ve got a private car park. We have 1 place per flat. The street by us has cars that come and park there.

Well they did until our ‘neighbour cretin’ as one reply said here, stuck this to their car, now they don’t park in the clearly signposted car park.

One of the other residents moaned about our ‘cretin’ but then I pointed out that his actions make our lives easier.

Be considerate. Is that space yours? (not directed at OP who clearly didn’t see any signs to indicate this)

It’s just some bellend with nothing better to do, who **incorrectly** believes people who don’t live there shouldn’t be allowed to park there.

People like this are common unfortunately.

  13. If you find out who it is, invoice them for a car wash.
When they refuse, keep upping the charge.
Get it around £50 and small claims it.
You’ll only get £15 or more if you can prove it caused damage.
Sometimes there’s nothing more fun than being more petty than a petty person.
I got £75 for parking on a Parkmaven site.
    They paid me!

    It was glorious!

  14. If it’s private land then it can be a trespass, although whether or not you need a warning sign I don’t know. You’ve now been warned not to park though. The landowner can pursue case for trespass.
Also it’s a possible criminal damage to your car

  15. Nothing legal on the sticker, however it is a warning that you are parked on private land and they’ve now got evidence they can act on in future if you continue to park there. In short, you have been notified you are on private land.

  16. If the sticker leaves a mark when you remove it, report it as vandalism to the police.

  17. The sticker means nothing the parking spot is what matters so no idea if you actually parked legally or not

  18. If they are placed in certain positions over the drivers side or attached with anything that requires cleaning then the person who places the thing is guilty of an offence.

Ironically criminal damage does not require damage, merely requiring spending time rectifying the issue is sufficient to meet that bar (as the damage is the loss in time).

So not legally binding but placing them can have legal impacts for the person placing them.

  19. The sticker is a warning of possible (unspecified) action in the future, so has no legal implications at all.

  20. yeah its a legally binding….. nothing… because it doesnt SAY anything. it tells you to not park there.

  21. We looked into putting stickers onto cars at an old workplace of mine and the consensus in the end was that we couldn’t do it because unless it’s official you are causing criminal damage to the vehicle. I would get the police involved and put a stop to this practice. If you’re not parked illegally and the vehicle is taxed you can pretty much put it where you need regardless of how it makes some insecure busybody feel. Personally the more you can legally piss them off the better, people just need to mind their own fucking business.

  22. Someone who thinks they own the road outside their house, if you’re intending on parking there again I’d leave the sticker on to save them wasing another.

  23. They haven’t threatened to do anything beside ‘further action’. If it was actually legitimate, you wouldn’t get a warning.

It’s like the letters I get every couple of weeks from the TV licence people for the past year or so constantly threatening to take ‘further action’ but nothing happens.

  24. Were there any official signs saying something like, “Permit holders only”, or, “Parking for residents of ????”, but only official signs of course.
But on the face of the posted photo I would say it’s rubbish.

  25. The only thing binding about that sticker is the adhesive making contact with your windscreen.
