Went out with a friend this evening and towards the end of the night we got a bit peckish, so we decided to grab something from a nearby fast food place.

We arrived at 10:32 pm, and I hadn’t realised they actually closed at 11 pm, not midnight. I ordered via the app for takeaway, but my friend really wanted to sit in.

By that point, the restaurant had flipped the chairs on the tables, taken the bins out and had mops and cleaning stuff out, so it was pretty clear that dine-in was essentially closed.

His argument was:

“They’re open till 11, so I’ll order, eat, and clean up after myself before then – what’s the issue?”

He also said that if they advertise being open until 11, they should be fully open until then, and shutting dine-in early is a bit cheeky.

We ended up taking the food away, but I do see his point.

What would you have done? Do you think the restaurant’s being cheeky, or is this fair enough close to closing time? Wonder how this applies to other sorts of shops as well.
