So, just a background: I'm not young. I'm middle aged and married and was doing it with my wife as we usually do several times a week when not on her period. The only concerns are really:

  • we don't want any more kids! not only is this going to be extra stress from a financial perspective but there's always the worry for every new pregnancy that you hope the child develops with no abnormalities or similar issues. we don't want any of that any more.
  • like I said, we're in our early 40s, so this is not the best time for my wife to be pregnant any more so there's also the extra worry of the toll it will put on her.

having said that, let's get to the point of the thread: Does anyone here sanity check your used condoms for holes after finishing inside? I do and just found a hole for the first time tonight.

It's a habit that I've built since I was younger that after finishing inside, I go to the toilet and while cleaning up I turn on the faucet and let the water rush into the condom until it fills up like a water balloon, then I pinch the open end while I slosh and bounce the water around to see if any water escapes.

For the first time in what – 2 decades of doing this? – I saw water seep out from a hole in the condom.

The hole was in the middle of the condom – around several inches from the tip. But then it's only now that I realize that I can't even tell if this most likely occurred during the sex or if it happened because I was stress-testing the condom after sex.

In any case, my wife and I are a bit paranoid about it and she's gone to the OB to check if anything should be done because this is unfamiliar territory with us.

Just posted here out of curiosity what others might think:

  • Is this anything to worry about?
  • Does anyone else do the post-sex sanity check?
