So, for context: The person who I will call as L (F23) is my (M24) friend and also my best friend O’s (M24) ex. We’ve all been friends for over 2 years, and I have a girlfriend (F24) too, which is abroad.
About 4 months ago, we all went to a party. O and L had been arguing a lot that year, and that night O got really drunk, threw his phone at a wall, and scared L. I helped calm him down and later made sure L got home safely, since she didn’t want to go with O.
In the taxi, she cried the whole way. When we got to her apartment, I told her to drink some water and change clothes while I waited outside her room. We had to talk inside of her room cause she didn't want to her roommates listen to her cryung about O, and it was late night so they definitely would listen to. She asked me to sit with her while she calmed down. I sat at the edge of her bed, she vented a bit, and when things settled, she told me I could crash there if I wanted. I said fine, I’d sleep on the couch. She said, “you can sleep in the bed if the couch isn’t comfy,” but I clearly said no and slept on the couch for a few hours before leaving in the morning.
L and O broke up that same day.
Fast forward to tonight, I ran into L and one of her friends (P, F20). We all went back to my place with some other friends and O. While chatting, P suddenly said, “If I were O, I’d never forgive you.” I was confused and asked why. She said, “Because you offered to sleep in L’s bed.” I was like, what the actual hell?? Apparently, L told people (and even O) that I wanted to sleep in her bed that night.
I was shocked. That never happened. I even told P that’s a complete lie. Later, I told O everything, and he said he already knew cause L had said that months ago, but he didn’t believe her.
Now I’m just stuck thinking… why would she lie like that?? She could’ve seriously ruined my friendship with O and my relationship with my girlfriend. I will have a conversation with her this week.
