Men who live away from their hometown and family. Was it your decision to move away, or did your career necessitate the move?

I (45m) live 2 hours away from my hometown, and all my family lives there. I moved out at 19 when I joined the Army. However, after I got out, I got hired with my Fire Department I work for and have been living in this area ever since.
