What are some shows/movies you watch that turn off your brain?
September 20, 2025
by that i mean they make you forget about your stressors, problems and the trivial everyday life stuff- sort of a mental escape.

I like sitcoms for this – like The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Arrested Development etc
Comedy sitcoms. On repeat. Scrubs, New girl, Schitts Creek to name a few.
Brooklyn 99
Drama films..too much
Monsters: The Menendez Brothers.
Even though it’s a messed up story, the Beverly Hills landscapes and nice music choices make it a nice show to put in the back for me.
X-files, the big bang theory, south park
Sense & Sensibility. Pride & Prejudice.
Bob’s Burgers on endless repeat
Fast & Furious — nothing eases stress like watching cars defy physics and family solve everything.
Lucky Star, That 70s Show, Desperate Housewives, and 90s Sailor Moon.

Any hallmark movie
gossip girl
modern family
downton abbey
the gilded age
hot fuzz
clue
The Office,
Brooklyn 99,
Schitt’s Creek,
Silicon Valley,
Superstore
Don’t watch these on repeat but do like them too;
Working moms
Bit darker;
Orphan Black,
Kaos,
Ginny & Georgia,
Homeland,
The Blacklist
Friends, The Office.
The Expanse
Cartoons from childhood. There’s something healing about watching SpongeBob or Tom & Jerry after a long day no logic, just pure silly joy.
The Mindy project!
Hogan’s Heroes
Downton Abbey ❤️
Adventure time, Bob’s Burgers, X-files, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Twilight series. The good stuff.
Desperate housewives, Rick & Morty, Brooklyn 99, the Simpson, Madea, etc

The Inbetweeners
The Simpsons
Thomas the Tank Engine
Fringe
Young Sheldon
Doctor Who
Modern Family
The Blue Lagoon
The Notebook
Matilda
Spy Kids
Ratatouille
Weirdly, Law and Order, SVU, Criminal Intent, organized crime.
Wrestling. Wrestling is my happy place. When I watch it, I forget about all the shit going on around me. I’m just in the moment enjoying the show.
Archer
The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, Bob’s Burgers, King of Yhe Hill, Solar Opposites, Degrassi TNG, etc. I also will binge watch old school cartoons and sitcoms from the 80s and 90s I find on YouTube or Tubi with my kids.
I called these my “calm-me-down shows” because they let me just zone out, get a few laughs out, and decompress from my day at work and running around and taking care of my kids, partner, dogs and cat, and our home.

A few in the shows category: The Office, Bob’s Burgers, golden era Simpsons, $chitt’s Creek, Broad City.
As far as a movie that I use for this purpose there is only one and that is Talladega Nights.
