I'm a white American but I love za'atar and it with cottage cheese is one of my son's favorite snacks.

  1. Yes, a few different kinds.  Pretty much required if you ever make middle eastern food.

  2. I do! I first had it as za’atar bread at a Middle Eastern bakery. It’s a staple in my kitchen now, and we especially love it on salads.

  3. I do, but it’s a recent discovery for me. It’s probably not a stake pantry item in most American homes.

  4. Me! Sumac too.

I grew up in Detroit though, where there’s a sizable Middle Eastern populatin so I love to make shawarma, salad fattosh, kibbie naya, etc,.

  5. I like it a lot but I ran out a while back. I do have sumac though That is a component of zaatar.

  6. I work in a Lebanese restaurant, so I think i’m just sort of permanently dusted in it.

I did make a huge batch of za’atar chex mix the other day. It was fire.

  7. I love za’atar! I don’t normally keep it around at home, but maybe I should, that stuff is delish

  8. I do. My MIL is Palestinian and uses it fairly often, so she gifted me some. I usually mix it with olive oil and dip my homemade bread in it.

  9. Huh apparently people don’t know what that is. I don’t have it on hand now but the local bagel place has zaatar bagels

  10. I make my own blend and have it constantly on hand. Did a trip through Israel/Palestine/Jordan back in 2008 and had never heard of it previously but have been hooked on it ever since. A toasted pita dipped in some quality EVOO and then some za’atar is a wonderful snack. I’ve started serving that to guests as an appetizer when they come over rather than the (IMO overdone) olive oil/balsamic combo and everybody loves it.

  11. I love it. For those that don’t know what it is, it’s a spice mix common in Lebanon and Israel….sesame and thyme mixed. Lebanese people enjoy some toasted on pita bread with olive oil and yogurt for breakfast.

  12. I do. I have two containers in my pantry now. It’s great on so many things. Signed, Pasty white person.

  13. I used to, but have gotten out of the habit. I would make za’atar pizzas from fresh dough from my bread machine. I would cook them on a grill attachment on my cooktop. I would add tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. I would do this on a whim – like when my kids had their friends over and they wanted a snack.

Now that you have reminded me, I need to pay the middle-eastern grocery a visit!

  14. Me! In addition to more traditional uses: za’atar is elite on avocado toast and scrambled eggs. Used weekly in my just for that.
