My 40th is the end of this year. I was thinking about treating 15 friends to dinner at a nice restaurant. Prix fixe with wine pairing seems like it’ll be around $4k.
Is that excessive for a 40th birthday? I rarely have birthday parties. I don’t really like the attention. But I like the idea of being with my friends and doing something nice for them to celebrate.
Money wise I’m 98% to my savings goal for the year, I’m theoretically five years from hitting my modest FIRE goal. $4k could pay for a nice trip with my wife, but we can do that any time. I can’t think of any other way I’d like to celebrate it. There’s a chance I could get laid off, but I’ve done the math and if that happens I think we’d be totally fine. Don’t have kids (despite lots of extremely expensive and ultimately depressing trying).
So, is that excessive a 40th birthday? What did you do for your 40th?
