I'm a sophomore in college this year. I'm a member of the student council, and also the class president (in my school, the class president has a lot of power — basically, all class matters need my approval before they can move forward).

Lately, I've run into a lot of trouble. New freshmen are entering the school, and I was assigned to help manage one of the new classes (as a kind of assistant to the counselor). My partner’s ability is worrying, so I have to take on more responsibility. At the same time, my own class also brings me a lot of stress.

For example, when some girls in my class needed help carrying luggage, I asked the boys to help, but they did nothing. They just stood there, and in the end didn’t even say thank you. In another case, our vice class president miscalculated class funds. I suggested that we fix the mistake by paying the money back properly, but some people intentionally went against me, saying things like “a leader is just a leader, they can do whatever they want.” Some classmates even try to undermine me — saying bad things about me in front of others, or ignoring me and showing off in front of teachers. They often bypass me when doing things, which makes me feel powerless.

I don’t really want to tell my teacher, since she’s been busy and I don’t want to bother her. But honestly, I feel very distressed right now. How should I deal with this situation?
