I'm currently dating a girl (it's a long distance) I really like her. She’s had multiple partners in the past, which didn’t bother me at all — I only care about staying safe and healthy. I advised her to get tested for STDs/STIs, and we both found out she’s positive for Hepatitis B. She was understandably worried, so I’ve been trying to support her and help her feel comfortable.
I’ve done my research, taken all the required tests, and started my vaccinations (including the first dose), and I’m committed to taking proper precautions. However, one issue is that I’m a regular blood donor — it’s something I care about deeply and actively advocate for. If i continue to date and get physical with her, due to my exposure I would be disqualified from donating blood indefinitely. I also worry about my own health, despite taking precautions.
I care about her and want to get to know her better, but at times I question whether I should stay in the relationship because of the risks and the fact that I won't be able to donate blood anymore. I’m also concerned about the possibility, however small, of getting infected.
What would be your openion? What would you guys do ? End it ? Or stay ?
TL;DR:
I’m dating a girl (3 months) a girl I really like. She tested positive for Hepatitis B, and I’ve started vaccination and precautions. The issue is I’m a regular blood donor, and I’d be disqualified indefinitely if I continue being exposed. I care about her but worry about my health and not being able to donate. Should I stay in the relationship or end it? What would you do?
