Djema el-Fna square is pretty crazy at the moment… one side is being reconstructed and is full of road workers, cement mixing trucks and other machinery.
The rest of the square is packed with people, all the usual performers…musicians, gambling games, monkeys, snake charmers and dancers.. plus a large number of Moroccan and international tourists.
The noise level was incredible there last night. We are staying a 5 minute walk away but tucked away down a long alleyway,a very old riad that is kind of falling to pieces, very traditional Moroccan style.
It’s a short stay in Marrakech, just a place to fly into, eat and sleep on this trip.
This morning we take the bus to the coast,to the smaller city of Essaouira.
Huge drama in Finland: [a man has had a section of gravel road grated](https://yle.fi/a/74-20181925) for maintenance at his own expense as he had grown tired of its bad shape, and now officials are telling people not to do that – someone working in road maintenance claims the unofficial road maintenance job has brought up big rocks, and the road edges stop water from escaping the road. The man disagrees with both claims.
Tourists are also experiencing a lot of trouble with flat tires on the roads up north. Some say it’s because of people not making sure to buy new tires early enough, others put the blame on people driving too fast on rougher roads. Cars are also heavier than ever, putting extra stress on tires.
Last year, someone stated that the last time Finland’s road network has been as bad as it is now, was during the deep economic depression in the early 90’s.
