I had a friend group in high school until halfway through college. Whenever I texted I was always ignored. Even in a multi-way conversation my texts would be ignored unless someone else repeats it themselves. Honestly this happened to anyone I texted. I left that group years ago but I haven’t really been able to make friends since. Every time I meet someone and get their number I just don’t text. I’m scared of having awkward conversation and I don’t know any middle ground. For example my spouse and I went to their friend’s wedding reception and I met someone of their friends. We hit it off and I got all of their numbers. I haven’t said a word since. I know they like books but I don’t know to what extent, what kind, and I don’t know anything else we have in common. It’s weird if I spring up a text out of nowhere just to talk. And I get intense about my hobbies so I’m worried I’ll bother these people with my constant ramblings. I also can’t meet them in person since we live in different cities.

Is there a protocol for this? I want to have some form of a social life but I genuinely don’t know how to talk at this point.
