I was practicing a piece on the piano yesterday and couldn’t figure out the correct fingering. I thought, everyone is asking ChatGPT everything nowadays, maybe I do the same.
Me: Hey, do you know xyz nocturne from that composer?
ChatGPT: Of course! XYZ is a wonderful romantic bla bla bla would you like me to dig out notable recordings?
Me: I can’t figure out how to play bars 7-11, can you give me the correct fingering?
ChatGPT: Sure! Would you like the standard or for short fingers (who knew there was such a thing)
Me: please give me the standard fingering
ChatGPT: *this prompt has been flagged and removed as inappropriate*
Me: 🙄 please give me the fingering for XYZ opus 5 bars 7-11
ChatGPT: of course! Here it is

I then asked a friend of mine who’s a piano teacher, and she gave me the correct fingering.
I just read some columnists in a local paper mention something about Trans terrorism. Apparently, there’s an epidemic of mentally ill trans people (same thing according to this dude) committing mass shootings against Christians; they gave an incident of a trans person shooting up a Catholic school in Minnesota recently as proof. Some conservatives online think maybe they should all be locked up in insane asylums. There’s also some pretty deranged stuff from redditors on the other side. Alright, I like it better when they were talking about bathroom politics.
Oh yeah, it’s weird hearing the pope speak in English after said incident.
As I plan my trip to Helsinki tomorrow (any recs for things to do while dealing with 10 hour jetlag, btw?), all I can say is, thank fuck in this one, very specific instance for Swedish imperialism, cause my brain just can’t parse words and place names in Finnish, *at all*. And no, being a non-Indo-European language isn’t an excuse. Estonia and Hungary were fine with their crazy languages. I don’t know what the hell a Szombathely or a Nyiregyháza is, but I can at least read the word and divide it into coherent syllables that my brain can then store and put back together when the time comes that I would ever need to use the word Nyiregyháza in a conversation (and why wouldn’t I?)
I had a particularly bad meltdown when I realised that to get to my hotel from the airport I had to travel via a place called *päärautatieasema*, only eventually saved from becoming a full seizure by the word *centralstation* under it in small, merciful Swedish letters. What is it about the word *checks notes* päär *checks notes again* päaratatau *checks notes again* autautiesema that makes it so difficult to read and retain? Is it the combination of length with vowel to consonant ratio? Linguists and psychologists, help me understand what’s going on here.
