I feel much more confident when I prepare things to say for job interviews and haven’t ever found an issue with my vibes (performing arts degree helps a lot!) in regards to talking to people – I just don’t understand why people say things sometimes. Probably autistic but never went through with diagnosis.

Anyway. Prepped for a day for this interview; I’m told in a confirmation email that it’s competency based so I’m thinking of STARR examples and noting them down as potential things to say. Now they’re rejecting me for being too competent??????? Too organised??? I don’t understand and it’s frustrating.

Can someone help me decode what they actually wanted from me? Was I just intimidating because of how prepared I am? I naturally utilise notes and writing things down in everything I do – I don’t understand it at all.

Here’s the feedback;

Hi Soo-I-Side,
Thank you so much for your email and for taking the time to meet with us. It was genuinely lovely to meet you and we really appreciated your interest in the role and in Curaleaf.
You clearly put a lot of time and effort into preparing, which we truly value. One piece of feedback we wanted to share is that at times the interview felt a little too rehearsed. We noticed you were referring to your notes quite a bit and while it’s great to be prepared, it did make it a bit harder for us to get a real sense of who you are and how you naturally approach things.
That said, we were really impressed with the effort you made and your enthusiasm for the opportunity. We'd just encourage you to trust yourself a little more and let more of your personality shine through, even if everything isn’t perfectly scripted. Sometimes the most genuine answers are the ones that come naturally in the moment.
Thanks again for your time and for showing such interest in the role. We wish you all the best in your future interviews and hope you keep that enthusiasm and drive wherever you go.
Warm wishes,
Organisation
