So I’m working front desk at a hotel. I have a regular who knows a lot of us fairly well. Super friendly, always asks how we’re doing. He comes down and asks how I’m late I’m staying, then says ‘I’m going to Dairy Queen you need anything?’ I say no, he says it’s going on the company card and I say well I don’t need anything but a blizzard would be nice. Tell him the flavor and he walks out. He looked annoyed and now I feel odd. I also want a job at his restaurant so I was trying to have something for him to remember me from. The conversation was slightly awkward because I have a tendency to think before I speak and it appears that I’m done talking before I add something (like 2 extra seconds than most people I swear). People who move quickly get annoyed.
Should I have just said no to the offer? Was it pure politeness? What’s the best way to recover from this? Context I’m from the south and people tend to be polite with offers that they don’t actually want to follow through on.
