I just got downvoted to oblivion for asking what I thought was a harmlessly silly question about replacing a somewhat graphic name for a site in Canada with an Indigenous one.

I'm being told that I'm "ignorant" and "racist" for "demanding" that a name chosen by Indigenous people be changed. I really didn't think I was coming across as "demanding" and I had no idea the non-Indigenous name was apparently chosen by an Indigenous person.

I totally understand and upvoted the comments mocking my post as being silly but I was surprised that anybody was upset.

Is it just my tone and how I'm coming across? Or do you think I would get the same reaction in real life thinking aloud "I know I'm being puritanical but this name feels a bit violent for my taste, maybe the original Indigenous name would be better?"

Is my entire thought process anti-social? Do I need to just not share about topics like this when they interest me, and just keep it to myself because I lack judgment and emotional intelligence?
