I’m trying to get better at approaching strangers and making new friends/potential interests. For example, I’m on a walk and see a girl sitting alone, writing in a notebook. I’d like to start a conversation with her, but there isn’t really a reason to other than wanting to talk and get to know her.

If I said something like “Hey, are you journaling or sketching?” would that come across as weird/creepy, or would you take it as a normal icebreaker? Part of me thinks, “Why are you even talking to me?” and that makes me overthink it.

I’m curious how people would feel about this kind of approach. For context, I live in a place where people are usually pretty reserved and don’t often talk to strangers (or at least that’s my impression).
