This just happened about an hour ago and I am very shaken up. I (26F) met two girls through work, we’ll call them Kate and Sarah (early 20s I think). I was closer to Kate, though we’d only hung out a handful of times, and lately I’d been distancing myself. I've known both of them for 2 years.
The four of us… me, Kate, Sarah, and Kate’s boyfriend (no idea why he’s in there) share a group chat that started for work but turned into venting. Both Kate and Sarah often spoke negatively about our boss and encouraged me to stand up for myself or even leave if I had to.
Recently, I hit my breaking point. This was once a career I was passionate about, but under this boss I’ve become completely drained. I can't stand the treatment in the work place, my boss even goes as far as misclassifying us as 1099 workers while treating us like employees. I’d already been planning a move and career change, so I decided it was time.
I told the girls I was leaving and why and they got pretty mad at me. I left it there, not wanting to have or escalate any conflict. After that, the texts kept rolling that they think I’m wrong for leaving, constant questions about whether I’d sent the email, guilt-tripping, even joking threats that they’d check with the boss themselves, plus memes about me. I disengaged.
That evening, Kate texted me separately about some office items. I replied that I didn’t need them back and mentioned I was going through a lot and probably moving back to my home state soon. She responded kindly, but it was late so I planned to reply the next morning.
Tonight, things escalated. Kate seemed understanding, but Sarah (her roommate) blew up my phone calling 8+ times and FaceTiming me without a single text. I ignored it because it was late and I didn’t want to engage, I'd handle it in the morning.
Later, while I was trying to sleep, they both showed up at my condo. I still don’t know how they got into the building since it has extremely tight security. It started with someone trying my door without warning. I might not have believed it if my cat hadn’t sprinted to it.
I’m a single woman living alone downtown, and my instincts from the Marine Corps kicked in. I grabbed a weapon and prepared myself. When I looked through the peephole, someone was covering it. I asked who it was, and they said it was them, “just checking on me.” I was relieved but shaken.
I told them I was in bed, needed my privacy, and that this was inappropriate. They brushed it off and lingered at my door. I had almost forgotten to lock it before bed, if I hadn’t, they would have been inside immediately.
After I stopped responding, they finally went quiet. Later I saw the group chat messages they’d sent while my phone was on DND and I was in bed: “we will literally come over if you want to talk” and “we’re about to pull up.”
I have zero idea how they even got into the building at that time of night. If security let them in without my permission, that’s a huge violation. I’m honestly traumatized and will be triple-checking my locks from now on. Should I even do anything? Block them? Say something tomorrow morning?
TL;DR Two coworkers I thought were friends pressured me nonstop after I resigned from my job, then showed up uninvited at my condo late at night. One of them blew up my phone with calls, then they both somehow got past my building’s tight security, tried my door, and even covered my peephole while saying they were “just checking on me.” I’m shaken and don’t know how to handle this or set boundaries moving forward.
