What's happening:

I try to make online friends to play games with. I have such a large variety of games I'm interested in so I find myself always looking for new people since my current friends aren't interested in all of the same things I am. I'll come to reddit and make a post with what I'm looking for or do a search in various friend making reddits with keywords such as the title of the game I'm interested in finding someone for or a genre.

What I have tried:

I'll message them that I saw their post about making friends or from them seeing my post and point out the particular thing that I read that made me take the time to message them. I'll also tell them in the introduction message about myself that I'm looking for someone comfortable talking in a group voice chat because I don't enjoy 1 on 1s. The people that say they are fine with it I'll add them and reiterate asking if they are comfortable with joining group voice chat. I make sure to offer that if they are shy or feel like they need an invite just let me know and I can do that for them otherwise they can join whenever they feel comfortable.

What I want to happen:

I want people to actually mean it. I feel like at some point of the exchange they are saying what they think is a good thing but then not actually following through with it. I feel like the furthest I get is they actually join VC for one night and then never again. I've even found the same people multiple times because their posts keep coming up and it aligns with what I'm looking for and I don't realize it until I add them again but I've never gotten any response after from them.

Is there something I'm missing about my interaction with people? I'm reading them describe what they are looking for and sitting there thinking I have that! You're looking for this thing I have! I have been iterating on my approach over the years to where I thought I was improving but if I talk to 400+ people over years and end up with less than 3 people that came from those attempts I feel like I'm the problem and not understanding something.
