I don’t know where else to go with this. My neighbour is a night owl and heavy smoker. We have balconies that are connected so when he’s out there he’s essentially outside our bedroom window. Every morning for over a week he’s gone out on the balcony for a cigarette between 2am and 4am and as soon as he gets out there he does this huge, exaggerated smokers cough which is sometimes followed by him gobbing over the balcony. Every time without fail it wakes me up (particularly as it’s been hot so had to have the window open). I then struggle to get back to sleep. I’m so tired, just don’t know what to do. Closing the window makes that room unbearably hot. I sleep with headphones in but can still hear him. Sometimes after his 2am cigarette he goes into his kitchen and starts washing up/ cooking/ cleaning and you can hear everything through the wall. I know I probably don’t have a leg to stand on with regards to complaining because he’s just coughing and smoking on his own balcony. Not to mention him and his wife are something to do with the management company that takes care of our building.
I’m going insane, I’m so tired. Just don’t know what to do. Trying to convince my partner we need to move but he doesn’t seem bothered. Our bedroom stinks of cigarette smoke during the summer because of the neighbour smoking but he’s on his own property, there’s nothing I can do to stop him smoking. We’ve got our 7 year old niece coming over later today and I’m worried she’ll over hear something because he’s regularly making inappropriate comments (e.g. talking to his wife through the balcony door when he’s out there about his penis) and often gets into a screaming rage and starts calling his wife f-ing c-t. Essentially we can hear everything this guy says all the time as he’s so unnecessarily loud (and so is his wife tbf). Is there anything I can do? I know people have far worse issues with their neighbours but these relatively small things on a daily basis are driving me insane. I have politely said to his wife on occasions where he’s blatantly taking the piss (e.g. using power tools before 7am on a Sunday morning or sanding down the wall our bed is against at 3am). I can’t cope anymore.
