Do you only open windows a small amount due to an irrational fear of a bird flying in?

I see neighbours flinging windows wide open all day, and it amazes me that a bird never seemingly tries to fly in. I hate small flappy birds like starlings so getting one in the house would be my worst nightmare. Even in summer I only open windows a small amount to prevent this. Am I the only one?
