Is Birmingham the UK’s sleeping giant and secretly a hell of a lot better than social media and people make out?
It’s become a running trend since the late 2010’s to constantly compare anything run down, gritty or outright horrible to the second city, but is Birmingham maybe a lot better than we once thought.
The obvious pros of being smack bang in the centre of the country with motorways to here there and everything still ring true but heres my quick pros and cons:
Pro:
- HS2 interchange and curzon street are a huge bonus that other cities have been declined
- Digbeth regeneration is outstanding
- City centre is the cleanest and best looking its been in years
Cons:
– Council in ruins
– Social cohesion at an all time low with enclaves of nationalities forming across the city
– Outside the city centre, poverty is rife and standards of living worsening
– Traffic
