Those of you who confronted your cat callers, what happened?

They back down. Every time. It definitely doesn’t hurt that I’m almost 6 feet tall, and just learned to be more confrontational. Often it’s simply that I stop in my tracks and lock eyes with them until they become uncomfortable and look away.
They are all cowards, the last time it happened to me, I picked up my phone, took a picture, walked around the corner took a picture of their landscaping truck, and I had a nice long conversation with their office manager.
Generally they shut up. They don’t expect women to say stuff like ‘sorry can’t say the same’, ‘I definitely wouldn’t’, etc. If they’re with friends, me saying something that’ll make the friends laugh at them is particularly amusing. One time I just pointed behind him and said ‘hi, police’, the shock on his face was worth it.
You have to time this sort of confrontation though. I wouldn’t advise this at night, in any area where people are drinking, or in a remote place.
Thankfully the culture doesn’t seem as prevalent nowadays as it was maybe 15/20 years ago.
Usually ignore the idiots unless they r really disruptive..only then will I confront the issue. And yes, they usually r cowards in the end.
He followed me down the street for three blocks screaming his phone number at me until I turned the corner.
They either laugh it off, they fall silent and get uncomfortable and/or trying to explain themselves ‘it was just a joke blah blah’ . Very rarely they got aggressive. the gamble is, you never know which one you gonna get.
Never I would not confront that is much too dangerous
When I was a teenager, sometimes I liked to say true things at them like “I’m fifteen years old, dude. That’s so fucking creepy. What is wrong with you?” It was surprisingly effective (clearly embarrassed them in front of other people, and almost always made them back the fuck off), but I’d only ever attempt it when in a well-lit public location where I felt relatively safe.
I dont confront them perse, i react with a thank you and keep a firm pace. It seems to confuse them.
I acted interested and followed them they got scared and ran, I ran after. Turns out it isn’t about giving a compliment or flirting, it’s about power and making the girl afraid. That’s why they do it to little girls when we’re young and nonthreatening and why they do it in groups and when they have a car to get away in.
India:
1. Staring , sexual comments: I stared back, shouted obscenities and threw my shoe at him. Happened several times.
2. Not a cat caller, but he was grazing my thigh in a bus. I woke up to it, yelled, hit him pushed him to the window. Driver stopped the bus and conductor threw him out.
3. Pinched my bum: I turned around and slapped his face hard
Europe:
Dude commented some shit when I was passing by, i kicked up a stink, got 10 people to listen what he did, took his video and threatened to call the cops. Never saw him again and cops were unreachable lol
If they can be obscene, why should I have to be ladylike and modest. Spew it all out there. Stoop down to their animal level.
I was in walmart of all places 🙄
He had already approached me in the parking lot to ask if I wanted to buy a CD, and I turned him down in a brief but polite manner. Then he followed me through the store, aisle to aisle saying the usual stuff. I waited until an employee and a couple of customers were standing nearby, turned around and loudly stated that I was being followed and sexually harassed. He called me a “crack head” and wandered off (lol). I later saw him talking to some kids and reported him to security, called my husband to stay on the phone with me while I went back though the parking lot. Idk if he got asked to leave or not tbh, security said he had already been complained about several times.
It all freaked me out a little since I’m from a small town and it really doesn’t happen to me often. I can’t imagine dealing with it regularly, its so distressing!
Usually just saying “ew” while looking grossed out is enough to embarrass them and make them shut up. I’ve never angrily confronted anyone, because I don’t want to get hurt. But embarrassing them seems to make it hurt more for them anyway
I wish a man would take me away from this shithole small town.
They just acted more perverted.
They shut up pretty darn fast.
So I was walking back to my dorm and a group of freshmen girls in a building started to cat call me thinking I was a little boy. I wasn’t having it so I opened my umbrella trying to block their vision of me; it didn’t work cuz they then started to get me to put down my umbrella. I was so down with them that I yelled out, “I’M A GIRL!!!” which shut them up real quick lol.
Another time when I was heading back to my dorm from an internship and the way I always went to and from their, there’s a middle school. It was around three so the kids were leaving to go to home, there was a group of three boys cat calling every girl that walked past them. I wasn’t going to say anything because ‘what was the point’ but then one of those kids complained that none of the girls where paying any attention to them (mind you they were literally barking like dogs at these girls) so my inner older sister came out and I started to scolded them saying, “no girl is going or will respond to them because what they were doing.” Which those little boys didn’t like that I was calling them out so that tried key word tried to make fun of me, and so I walked away and replied to their poor attempts to make fun of me with, “omg really” and “no way” in a sarcastic tone.
So I basically fail to not pay attention to what they were saying and would react back with sarcastic anger lol but when I was younger I’d panic
