Hey, I'm neurodivergent and have always struggled with telling if I'm bothering someone while talking to them, I'm better nowadays but back in high school I was so bad with it even my friends would eventually snap and tell me to leave them alone after trying every nice way possible to signal they wanted to be left alone. I already have a list of some good rules but was wondering if there's anymore.
- Pay attention to their expression
- Am I the only one talking? If so that's not a good sign
- They're giving one word responses
- Ask them if they're in the mood to talk before talking and accept their answer. It's a yes don't keep asking if I'm bothering them and if it's a no leave them alone
Just today at work I had a really good conversation with a coworker where we both equally talked. On 2nd break I asked if she was up to talking again but she said she'd prefer to chill by herself and listen to music so I left her alone.
