I’m in my mid 30s. I’m posting this from a burner account for anonymity. I have a neighbor who has been problematic for the last five years.
It started with him piling junk next to my house. It really became an eye sore. I talked to him about moving the junk which he typically would. But then a little later it would pile up again.
Other things that he has done, include putting offensive signs in his window and blasting his white dude rock music for the whole neighborhood to hear. He’s often burning things and smoking out our whole neighborhood. I also noticed that when I’ve had friends and family over in my backyard. He will start some sort of behavior like coming outside making a lot of noise, screeching his cars down our street etc..
There have been a few times where I have reached out to the non emergency police for help. In one instance, he had a massive fire burning during the night very close to my fence. Another scenario escalated when I was having friends over and came outside and started yelling into the air and flipping his motion lights on and off repeatedly. It totally disrupted my night and I’ll be honest I thought I was gonna get arrested for knocking him out.
I reached out to the alderman in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot that can be done since whatever he’s doing isn’t breaking any laws.
Things were quiet for about a month. And now the guy has started parking in front of my house on a daily basis. I did the right thing and asked him why he’s been doing that and he stated it’s his right to park wherever he wants to. With the way our houses are set up, he’s going out of his way to do this. Plus he’s got a driveway and plenty of street parking in front of his house.
In the past, he told our local police that everyone in our neighborhood bothers him. But he obviously gets a rise off of being like this.
I just feel like I’m going to scream. Or lose it on him and do something that I’m going to regret.
So for the men in the sub, have you ever dealt with a problem neighbor? Any advice for what to do?
