My husband recently started taking sertraline (Zoloft). He began with 50mg and the change was almost immediate—it was like I had my old partner back. He went from angry, distant, and constantly resentful toward me, to being kind, patient, and emotionally available again. It honestly felt like a miracle and brought so much peace to our home.
But after a few weeks, he started struggling with insomnia and racing thoughts again. His doctor recommended increasing the dose to 100mg. We’re now two weeks into the higher dose, and it feels like we’ve taken a big step backwards. He’s back to being irritable, moody, unmotivated, and cold. It’s really hard to be around him again.
Before he started meds, we were on the brink of divorce because of how he treated me. The difference on 50mg was like night and day, so this backslide is heartbreaking.
Has anyone else experienced this when increasing their dose? Is it worth waiting another 2 weeks to see if it levels out, or should we be talking to the doctor again already?
Any insight would be really appreciated—I’m exhausted and just want to know if there’s hope here.
FYI; he’s 35 and we are in the UK
