  1. It occurred to me when I was replying to a thread somewhere, that while Turkish cuisine does have the concept of courses during a meal (which is probably also a newfangled thing), we don’t really have a word for “course”. We have the names of the individual courses, like starter main etc, but I wouldn’t know how to translate 1st course, for example. Then again we also don’t have a word for berry. We have names for individual berries, but not berry. We may call them forest fruits, though many of the berries people might think of don’t grow in our forests, either. Same with nut.

Do you have a word for berry? Or course? Or nut?

  2. Checking out some new to me music I stumbled upon [A Thousand Tongues](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzljhiMjiZA), a short-ish piece by Missy Mazzoli. There appears to be multiple versions of it, but this is for amplified cello, vocalist, and prepared electronics.

I don’t yet know what it is about it that speaks to me so much, but it’s so lovely and beautiful. I listened to it like ten times yesterday. So atmospheric, and powerful. It’s like this bed of rather mellow sound, from which a very intriguing poem suddenly emerges in a rather unmarked manner, and then again fades away.
