For ladies with septum piercings. Why did you get it and how do others react to it?

  1. I got mine because I just thought they’re hot and I’ve wanted it for awhile. My husband was not happy about it the first day I had it but after the first day he didn’t care. He was just worried that I was going to look different with it but he thinks it’s hot now lol.

  2. Got it because I like my nose so I guess I wanted to decorate it idk. My parents tried to bribe me out of doing it but they were pretty much the only people to have an opinion about it. I’ve had my septum pierced since 2012 and I’ve had friends say they barely even notice it anymore, like it’s just a part of my face.

  3. I got it in 2001(?) Because I was/am a punk kid, I don’t really notice or care what peoples reactions are.

  4. I got it because i liked how it looked. The older generations hate it with a passion and will make sure you know how ugly they think it is. My friends said it looked cute. Unfortunately it was a sensory hell for me so i took it out.

  5. I like the way it looks on me. 99% of people don’t react. Then I go to the countryside and occasionally some old fart finds it important enough to tell me that the piercing reminds him of a bull or cow.

  6. I thought it looked cool. Nobody really reacted except for one time when a sweet elderly lady at a museum said “But what happens when you get a sniffle?” so I showed her i could just swing it up to blow my nose. It was a legit question.

  7. I got mine because I really like how they look and wanted one myself. I was, I think, around 20 when I got mine. I’ve had it for over 10 years now and still love it. Most people don’t react at all. Sometimes someone I’ll have known for a while will suddenly realize it’s on my face and ask if it’s new. That always makes me chuckle. But usually I get no reaction at all.

  8. I got it because it was easy to hide, and when I decided I didn’t want it anymore there would be no visible scars. The best side effect was that a couple nose hairs that would grow so long they curled out of my nostril were taken away. 10/10 best choice ever. I haven’t worn jewelry in it for about 10 years, but recently wanted to see if it was still open and it was!

  9. I always thought they looked cool. Plus I never really liked my nose. I’ve had it for about 5 years and I’ve stretched it so it’s pretty big. Older generations and most men hate it but I still love it and love how it looks on me

  10. I honestly couldn’t tell you, why get any piercing? i liked the look of it and it was popular at the time, even my brother with no other piercings had one.

He didn’t keep it but I did, these days I practically forget about it bc I keep a small thin silver ring in it. I’ve actually had people I’ve known awhile suddenly notice it even though I’ve had it for more than a decade at this point.

  11. I’ve had mine for about 12 years, I’m 40 now, covered in tattoos and rocking a buzzed head so the piercings usually aren’t the first thing people notice! I’ve gotten negative reactions to all of it; people hate women doing whatever they want, really though, who cares how other people react?

  12. Got it for fun as I had a lot of other face piercings, friends loved it, lovers loved it, parents hated it. I loved it and would have kept it in but work made me take it out

  13. I always wanted one and was on a trip with friends that wanted to get a nose piercing so I finally did on a whim! Everyone always compliments on how cute my septum is. I have very dainty opal jewelry in. I feel like I look weird whenever I take it out now. I also have an office job and have never had any issues.

  14. I got mine 10 years ago just because I thought it looked cool and all my friends were also getting piercings. I think people react more to the jewelry than the piercing. I have a small gold hoop in and I have worked in a few business formal places with no issues.

  15. I liked how it looked on others, took the risk and loved it. Everyone seems to like it, my mother hilariously feigns shock every time she sees it

  16. I got it 5 years ago as a few months after turning 18, just because I liked it idk. My mom was mad at first and told me how it reminded her of a cow, my bf at the time was not that supportive of it and the rest of the world doesn’t gaf tbh.

Now it’s become a part of my face, every time I take it out to change it, those few minutes without it I feel like I look like a different person and I hate it.

+ one time I was working at a retail store and a lady asked me if it symbolized anything specific, like being gay or something. I laughed and told her that tho I was bisexual, no I just got it because I like it, it doesn’t mean anything. She was genuine about it and respectful, and I get where she’s coming from because Latinos can be very conservative sometimes.

  17. Got one because I dont like my nose but can’t afford a nose job. Figured if Im gonna have to see my nose everyday, may as well put something i like to see on it

  18. With all due respect it reminds me of the way we used to put rings on oxen when I was a little girl that lived on a farm. 😆

  19. I love piercings so it was natural.
I have/ had others on my face.

    No-one says anything usually.
Some people say I love all your rings ☺️

  20. I’ve always hated my nose but loved septum piercings on other people. I turned 40 and figured, fuck it. It’s made me appreciate my nose more, especially when adorable young people compliment it

  21. I got mine fresh out of a relationship with a really controlling guy. He was the type to hate piercings and tattoos on women and I had always wanted both.

So when I left I got my septum pierced. I live in the south, so a lot of people really like to tell me their opinion on it. Usually older people.

But I’ve had it for over 15 years and would never let anyone talk me out of keeping it.

  22. Got mine in like 2007, started with a small retainer and over time I stretched it to 2g. Eventually I didn’t like how it was reshaping the tip of my nose so I took it out. I don’t wear jewelry in it anymore and if I squidge my nostrils just right you can see right through the hole. It’s still about 6g I would imagine.

Edit to add: how people reacted to it.. young people think it’s great or even very cute, and old people would tell me to my face how ugly it is. “Oh god thrownormanaway, why would you ruin your face with something so UGLY? 😫” chill out, Peepaw

  23. Had mine for about a year, 25F and work in the law enforcement field. Definitely gets some comments because none of my tattoos are visible nor have been seen by coworkers. Out in public I have 0 issues. Had an uncle “joke” threaten to rip it out and I told him that was fuckin weird, my dad asked him why he thought his opinion mattered. Most of my comments are from coworkers and the standard “why did you do that” so I followed up with “why did you get X tattoo?” and that usually worked. I had to repeat that with almost every one of them but it helped it sink in

Huge kudos to the boomer coworker whose opinion I absolutely do not need to succeed in life said that it was ugly. I asked if I needed a bigger hoop that hangs down as far as his nose hairs do to finally look good.

  24. Did it for fun a couple of decades ago. When I wear it now, people treat me with less respect. So I typically leave it out.
