  1. Antwerp, nice bright morning though only 17° at 7am

We are staying a little out of the centre,a quiet area with some beautiful buildings, there’s some great architecture in this city.

It seems very clean, organised and wealthy. Many shops selling gold and diamonds, lots of restaurants full of people too.Good public transport of course,we have a tram stop nearby.

Lots of orthodox and ultra -orthodox jews around, there’s an impressive variety of hats and head coverings.

  2. Apparently this is a very good year for yellow chantarelles. I’m heading for my first outing to find some, we’ll see what happens! One of the reasons I chose to live where I do is the nearest forest trail starts 200 meters from my front door, and I’ve found nice amounts of yellow and funnel chantarelles, blueberries (cue the annual argument on whether “mustikka” is blueberry or bilberry, or something else) and cowberries less than 1 km away.

  3. DB has this weird habit now to announce a delay (like 20 min) and then start on time. After my husband missed his train once like that, he decided not to heed them anymore. And today he did have 20 min delay… but no announcement 🤣🤣 fuck me this whole institution is a giant meme. Really, is there a DB meme sub? There should be one.

I was watching some good old news on TV yesterday. It seems like after Germany introduced border controls near Poland, Poland doubled down and also introduced border controls. Now the whole thing is a giant mess with a ton more police officers needed (bye bye tax money) and of course, just popping by to the other side of the border for a coffee or shopping trip isn’t so fun anymore with kilometers of jam. But they caught like a black guy or something, so most residents seem okay with it. It’s for their safety, you know?

Friedrich Merz had said that people with the right Pantone skin color won’t be checked. Seems like that’s not so easy to implement.

  4. I went on a bit of a safari, seeing swarms of juvenile fish about 2 cm long in some creeks. I later saw an adult fish about x3 longer. I think they’re minnow. Another rare creature was a turtle about the size of an adult humans hand crawling on a paved trail. The deer and chipmunk were common creatures not worth noting. The deer were drinking from a body of water where the fish were not deemed suitable for consumption…maybe it has something to do with the recently shut down coal power plant on the other side of the lake that I stumbled on.

  5. You know when you look at history, read about, I don’t know, Darius the Great or Alexander the Great or fucking Nebuchadnezzar you always gotta look at things trough the moral lens of that era? “The past is a foreign country”, as the quote goes. You can’t look at them beheading people or marrying their uncle or whatever and judge that on how we feel about it now.

I wonder if 2000 years from now they’ll be looking at our age and arguing “yeah but look at them, a bunch of deviants, half of whom were addicted to opioids and the rest to porn, all of their favourite actors and cultural influences were sexually harassing minors and exposing themselves to their peers, of course it was normal for a leader of a great nation to act in this way”.
