  1. It’s been a nice stay in Paris, too short but it’s not cheap here! I’d like to stay for a few months but short term apartment rentals are brutal here, especially in the summer.

Yesterday we went to the David Hockney retrospective in the Louis Vuitton foundation,an excellent exhibition indeed.

Anyway we move on tonight.Another week and another country.. this is one of the things I like best about traveling in Europe!

Tomorrow morning we’ll be in the Netherlands.

  2. It’s cold! What happened to the heatwave? I barely got to wear any summer clothes. Oh well, better than forest fires, I guess. Still, this is a bit too cold. It was 10 degrees in the morning. It’s July. Yikes.

I feel like soon we’ll ditch scientific papers and just make TikTok videos. I am sick of scrolling through pages of supplementary information in order to be able to replicate an experiment. In order to make papers shorter, a lot of the relevant information is being tossed out. What’s the point of a paper if you can’t use it to replicate experiments? They don’t even print the physical journals anymore (mostly). It’s not like it makes sense to save space. And printed journals don’t even have printed supplementary materials. I guess being long makes papers less likely to be read and cited? No idea. Scientific publishing is so ass.

  3. Imagine this scene: A fight between two groups is taking place at surroundings of your choosing. The focus of the story is on an opposing pair of them, who partake in an intricate of a melee fight, be it with fists, swords, lightsabers, or whatever. After a while one of them is thrown on the ground, seemingly defeated, and the other still standing stands over them relishing the moment of their victory. Ready to strike the final blow they’re suddenly hit from behind by a friend the one on the ground, and so they’re saved.

Spoilers for the original Star Wars, but honestly not knowing what happens in it these days is pretty much like not knowing how Romeo and Juliet ends: Luke Skywalker is defeated, by that ugly old guy whose name I don’t remember right now, facing a certain demise, until Darth Vader, now turned back to the light side, picks the wrinkly wizard up and throws him in a deep fucking hole that’s right there for some reason.

How many times in the history of literature, film, television, theatre, opera, and all temporal arts based on prose has this happened? If I could change one thing, I’d change all those scenes. Imagine how different everything would be in the realm of fiction.
