What was your “I guess I’m a woman now” moment?

  1. Haven’t had one yet really and I’m 40. I don’t particularly feel connected to being a woman, just… a person. If that some days lol.

  2. When i signed the contract to my first job, and being surrounded by people i didn’t know but seemed to take what i had to say seriously. That day i became the woman, maker of moneys.

  3. When I moved out to go to uni. I started to go grocery shopping all by myself, for myself and had to deal with a fucked up pipe in my bathtub. That’s when I had that “Oh fuck, I’m doing adult shit” moment

  4. When I gave birth.

I realized that only women can give birth AND grow a totally new organ (the placenta) in the same time frame. Men can’t do that!! So in a scientific and literal sense, I had this moment.

  5. When my grandfather died and my aunt texted me about it and I had to break the news to my parents and siblings.

  6. Emotional maturity. It’s when I stopped thinking of myself as a Maiden (youth, innocence, naivety, first experiences) and started thinking of myself as the Mother.

Listening to Gloria Steinem made me understand so much about my own maturity that I had ignored, or locked away, or didn’t feel ready enough to claim. But that’s simply because I was infantilising myself.

  7. I had just got back to my gorgeous town house and was taking a luxurious bubble bath in my Jacuzzi tub still slightly buzzed from a fancy business dinner where I made some excellent contacts in my field. I felt VERY grown up lol.
