Tórshavn, early morning…if where you live is getting too hot, come to the Faroe Islands! About 10° at the moment.
The drive in from the airport was spectacular, with heavy rain, strong winds and hundreds of waterfalls on the mountains on both sides of the road… the sea was very rough too, big waves.
This morning the weather is good, it’s calm and sunny for now, though it can change very quickly here.
Sunday morning in Tórshavn is silent. No cars,no people around either.Too early for church I think.
I am up on a hill with a great view of the city. It’s one of the smallest ‘capitals’ in the world, with a population of about 14,000.
Some of the older houses in the centre still have the traditional grass growing on the roof.Very interesting concept.
I don’t want to talk too much about Turkish politics, but… Erdoğan is in rabid dog mode at the moment, arresting people at will (especially opposition and journalists). We have reached a state where he can have you locked up and your life turned inside out for no reason, and you can’t really do anything. I don’t think this is the end of Turkish democracy, this is the end of him. He’s the (Turkish) proverbial dog that pees in the mosque wall before its death. I really can’t wait for that day.
Today, I have a date to watch a Tarkovsky movie called Stalker, based on Roadside Picnic which I was talking about. I will watch it with an online friend, and am quite looking forward to it. I guess new internet friends are one good thing that happened because of the pandemic to me.
What about you guys? Did the pandemic period have any positives for you that lasted to this day?
