  1. Pakistan and India have been trading missile and drone barrages the past few days. A few dozen are dead. This might be the most aggressive two mature nuclear powers have ever gotten with each other.

On the topic of papal elections, imagine the shitshow that would be caliph elections today if the Muslim world held them like they initially. There’s many hostile powers competing for that spot; no candidate would ever have any legitimacy. I guess there’s probably a reason why no major power has ever bothered to claim the caliphate after its abolishment following WWI. Maybe the Turkish president and Saudi King can find some sort of sharing agreement, perhaps.

  2. Yesterday I had a genius idea. You know how Americans eat corn bread with their chilli? And curry is also kind of like chilli. So why not curry and corn bread?

Now, I never had American corn bread. The Turkish one is dry AF and I don’t like it at all (unless it’s extremely fresh and accompanied by yoghurt). So I picked a recipe, and made some Japanese curry because that’s what I had, and Japanese sell curry filled rolls, which are very good.

It wasn’t that great 😂 turns out American corn bread is basically a cake with corn meal (it’s not as sweet, but still quite sweet). So it was like eating a scone with a steak. The bread on its own, warm with butter would be good, I think. So, I would say 5.5/10.

Did you do any food experiments recently which didn’t go quite as you expected?

  3. I guess Google is cracking down on adblockers because most of them don’t work on Youtube anymore. Does the person uploading the video decide how many ads to put? Because I watched a 9 minute video and there were 6 breaks for advertisements!

    That’s one every 1.5 minutes.

  4. Had I been elected pope, granted I’m not even Catholic but on the off-chance, I would have picked Jesus II as my name. Why hasn’t a single pope used that before, are they stupid???

Since I’m going to see Puccini’s opera Turandot in the summer and I love Nessun dorma so much, who doesn’t, I’ve been listening to different recordings of it on youtube all the time. [This one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suj-2sbSFKs) from BBC Proms is great, and it’s interesting that many of the musicians, the women really, are wearing clothes that aren’t black. Usually everybody in the orchestra wears black.

Which reminded me, two weeks ago when I was at a concert where they played one violin concerto. The soloist, if they’re a woman, will often wear something colourful. And as it happened the violinist there was a woman, and she was wearing a sparkly blue dress while the whole rest of the orchestra was wearing black. I bet that soloist feels like the centre of the universe when they get on stage. Not only are they the focal point of the piece, being the soloist, but they just so literally pop out too as this one splash of colour on stage. To be fair, her dress in particular wasn’t the most stunning dress I’ve ever seen, but still.
