I'm still doing a kind of project where I put stars on an online map.. trying to remember all the places I have ever slept at least one night.
It's a long process, I'm going through old diaries for places I had forgotten about too.
How about you? Have you stayed in a lot of different locations domestically? Or very few? Tourism, work, visiting family?

For me, I’ve been in every oblast of Ukraine, in every oblast center except one, and almost every big or medium city(except two). So it was quite a lot. But not everywhere I’ve slept, cause a lot of time it was “take morning train -> spend day in a city -> take evening train back”.
Due to my work, almost all big or mid-sized cities in Finland which has a hotel.
Hmm, interesting question
Probably about 4, unless sleeping somewhere in the forest and patrolling military bases at night counts
Numerous. Haven’t counted. In boring covid years 2020-22 I visited northern- southern- western and easternmost and most centre points of this country. This is a big country, takes 17 hours to drive from Hanko to Nuorgam.
Not that many
Only ten
About 30 municipalities of the Netherlands.
I counted to 15 pretty fast, but I know that there are places I have forgotten about. Actual number is probably somewhere between 20 and 25.
Mostly for visiting family, also a fair bit of tourism and a bit of work.
I will give my home country as an example because I think it will be easier.
At least 8, but I can’t tell the exact number because it’s very likely I was traveling with my family as a child and I don’t remember it.
From the top of my head, I can think of at least 19 (places that are not where I live, so villages included). You can add 4 more, depending on how you want to interpret things with communes (the lowest level of local government and administration in Denmark) in the Copenhagen area. Is a place like Kastrup (Tårnby Kommune) or Frederiksberg (Frederiksberg Kommune) counted as a separate town, or is it counted as some suburb/neighbourhood of Copenhagen? If separate, you can add those extra
I initially thought not even 10 different ones but when I started listing them I got to 22. Which is still not a lot but it’s something I guess.
32 in France that I remember of right now so probably more
Gotta be more than 50 towns or cities in Sweden. More if you count municipalities as I love to sleep in tents.
I guess you would have to count every suburban town so that adds up… At least 20, probably forgetting some.
I can’t recall all the places where i slept when i was a kid but an educated estimate would be between 25 and 30 different places.
Definitely more than I could count
At least 25 that I can think of right away. Not sure how to count camping and stays at various summer houses.
I think I’m somewhere around twenty… During one part of my civilian substitute service, my group toured from one place to the other, staying 2-4 weeks to restore dry stone walls. That alone makes about a dozen places.
I’ve slept in Brussels, Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Middelkerke, De Panne, Koksijde, Brasschaat, Waterloo, Tubize, Huy, Liège, Heusy, Marche-en-Famenne, Virelles, Villers-la-Ville, Leffe (yes, where the beer is from — I slept in the abbey where it used to be produced), Herbeumont, Cugnon, Lambermont and Merbes-le-Château. 19.
Most of these are small villages and I slept there because I was invited by friends. Belgium is so small that you can visit any city by train in a day and go back home in the evening, so you don’t need to sleep there.
In my birth country I slept at a few relatives houses but I don’t really remember. As an adult stayed in hotels in 2 different cities.
In thr country where I grew up we only ever went on a staycation once so only 1 city.
In the country I live now I have stayed overnight in 4 places but the country is tiny so I’ve also been to some neighbouring cities overnight (maybe like 4 or 5).
I looked at a list of places with city status in the UK and reckon I’ve slept in around 22/76. I have visited a good number more.
Add in towns and villages and I’m sure I’d easily multiply that by 2 or 3.
I’ve only actually lived in three different places (though in many different houses and flats) – 2 cities and a small town.
In my own country I’ve only ever slept in maybe 3 different houses other than my own and they’re all within a mile of eachother
Used to work in politics. So pretty much every Danish city with more than 10k inhabitants and about half of the 5k ones.
Oh good question. Tried to remember and I made it to 35, but it’s probably more. A good half of that, if not more, is visiting family and friends. Work trips in the single digits. Some sightseeing.
Oh boy, that would be a monumental task to count lol. Probably 50+, would need to sit down with a map. I’d probably not know the places from ages ago, and I’d probably forget a whole bunch.
50+ in Denmark
This isn’t too hard for me since I’m in the habit of starring every place I’ve visited. As for where I’ve spent a night:
In Latvia, 6 cities and 4 towns.
In NZ, 13 cities and I’d guess 10-20 towns.
In Australia where I grew up, 6 cities and probably 15-20 towns or rural areas. It seems I’ve actually stayed in more cities in France as a tourist 😀
I guess I have spent the night at 120-150 different locations (cities, towns, villages and camping sites) in my country (Bulgaria). I have done a lot of traveling as a tourist from a young age and I have been engaged in a wide variety of other activities related to travelling to and staying at all kinds of places. That’s my conservative estimate, it might be more, but it is certainly not below 120.
I got to 37 and gave up!
About 25 in the Netherlands (also counting smaller towns in my area) and 3 in Belgium
Aside from Durham: Newcastle, Washington, Sunderland, Whitby, Scarborough, Birmingham, Manchester, London, Thirsk, Blackpool, Chester, Coventry, Redditch, Gloucester, Bournemouth, Newquay, Torquay, Preston, Bakewell, Market Bosworth, Stratford-upon-Avon, Hexham, Bowness-on-Windermere
That’s a good question. With the help of a map I would say around 70 out of 8000 *comuni* in Italy.
Too many to list or even remember, but at least 21 out of Sweden’s 25 historical provinces (landskap).
Often with several different places within each, but for a few of the provinces also just a single place while passing through on a road trip (either bike or car).
I’ve *been* to every province except Öland and Gotland, but I may not have staid overnight in a couple of them.
In Austria?
Vienna, St Pölten, Wels, Wr Neustadt, Wr Neudorf, Linz, Eggenburg, Neusiedl am See, Traiskirchen, Allentsteig, Baden, one town whose name I cannot remember, Graz. So a total of
In the UK?
Glasgow, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Paisley, Beith, Kendal, Hull, Coventry, Warwick, Bristol, Reading, Ayr, Preston, Dunkeld, Aberfeldy. Probably more, but I was drunk for a few.
That would be 1
