I was recently in London and was shocked to see that most of the pubs in the city center close at 11pm.

Of the cities I visited, Barcelona had the best nightlife.

  1. Lille but that’s because when I was 19 I ended up staying the night there driving to Paris and it was the first place I’d ever been that was open all night and spent the night drinking Hoegaarden and talking to everyone and took a French lass back to the hotel.

Best night ever, good craic the Northern French.

  2. Depends on what kind of nightlife you are after.

Of the big cities,Berlin has pretty good nightlife for me.Belgrade has amazing nightlife in the summer too.

Then there are island destinations, like Ibiza.

  3. Manchester is underrated for nightlife. Especially since it’s a non-capital. A Saturday night In Manchester city centre is wild.

I think London is possibly the worst major city in the UK for nightlife.

  4. Liverpool is pretty good imo. Busy every night of the week, not expensive and plenty of places to choose from in a small concentrated area

  5. Any city in Germany is a gem. No rip offs. I can drink beer all night in a club and still have some money left in the bank.

    That’s a good feeling.

  6. Berlin. I don’t think there’s another city that can come anywhere near as close as to Berlin’s nightlife and while everyone associates it with the techno scene there is far more to offer here than just that.

Best part is how late some places are open until – or in some cases, how some places never even close. How democratic and easily accessible and open everything is also a huge added bonus I don’t think can be said about other cities.

A lot of other cities that might come up in this discussion have only recently started to become popular for nightlife but Berlin has really held the crown I think since the 90s. And honestly there are still neighbourhoods you can go to in Berlin and it genuinely feels like you’re stepping in time, the atmosphere and energy just can’t be replicated anywhere else in Europe. Yes it’s true the city has become more gentrified and a lot of places have shut down but god damn, I’m always blown away at how much of a good time I can have in Berlin and not have a care in the world whatsoever.

  7. Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam (Dutch cities in general, specially festivals), Prague

  8. Barcelona, Berlin, Prague, Belgrade, Bucharest to a degree (if you know the spots), Amsterdam probably…
Sitges in Catalonia is an all night long party place (and the gay capital of Europe, perhaps – for those who are gays)

  9. Berlin. No need to look any further, if you feel like it, you can take a night out, that will not end for a couple of years, maybe the next decade, depending on your stamina

  10. I don’t know about the best, but I think London’s nightlife gets a lot better outside the center.

  11. Manchester is great, lived there for a few years and experienced it first hand. And about 2 years ago, flew in from holiday at about 23.00, went to the city centre to get a coach home and midnight, and the entire city was awash with reveller’s

  12. Tirana, Albania definitely used to be. All night parties in illegal/underground bars for really cheap. Though the hangovers from poor alcohol quality could be pretty severe.

Not sure if it’s still the same as last time I was there (9 years ago) the Police were definitely shutting things down.

P.s things may close earlier in UK but it’s the culture. In UK you start drinking after work at the latest or usually midday/early afternoon. From my experiences in Spain they often don’t even go out until 23:00/00:00.

  13. For me, Bucharest and Belgrade. they know how to party there. The rest of Europe’s very good in marketing the idea of having the best nightlife though but in reality they close early and overall, quite meh.

  14. My favourite nightlife is when all the people on the streets shut up and the night is calm and peaceful.
