My trip is almost over, last stop of the summer now… London.
It’s been a good summer but I need to get back to work and earn some money 😉
I read today that pickiness in children over what they will and won’t eat peaks at age 7 on average.
And according to this research, it’s more due to genetics rather than parenting.
Can you remember when you were 7 years old? 😉 If so, were you a very picky eater or not?
My mom told me that our former neighbor and family friend moved back in with his ex wife. I wasn’t very happy.
They got divorced a while ago (which was great because they hated each other). The guy married a Russian lady and they had a child although he was over 60 and she over 40 and they both had kids. The lady’s daughter from the previous marriage was living with them, too. The father is in Russia and doesn’t seem to want to have anything to do with the girl.
Then, the Russian lady died of Covid. It was very sad. The guy, now nearing 70, was left with a very young daughter and the other girl that he also takes care of. He was apparently having financial difficulties and asked his former wife if they could move in with her for a rent. The wife needed money, too, so she accepted. My mom was happy about it, but I am somehow not. I hope for the kids’ sake at least they don’t fight.
I have the feeling that my mom’s generation is having so much more of these stories. From my friends, barely anyone is divorced. But maybe I just don’t keep up with gossip enough, or things will change when we reach the late 40s.
Anyhow.
I read in the news that CERN is going to cut ties with scientists who are affiliated with Russian institutions. They have been given two years to change institutes if they want to retain access to CERN, but academic posts don’t grow on trees and I don’t imagine many institutes are hiring Russian scientists. In our field, the cutting ties with Russia wasn’t too noticeable, but I can imagine for fields like particle physics or astronomy it must have been quite hard.
The fucking war could slowly end, if you ask me.
