I’m a history student and I need to write a paper about the transition from Communism to democracy in Romania. For this task I need to find historical sources, which are translated in English or German (unfortunately we’re only allowed to use professional translations), which turned out to be difficult. Such sources could be anything from official documents, political speeches, party programs, newspaper articles, etc. But not scientific literature (I’ve already found some, but more is welcome).
I would be especially interested in sources about how Ceausescu is (or was) viewed after the end of communism. Specifically, sources that praise Ceausescu or downplay his crimes would be of interest. I’ve heard that some right-wing nationalists have a surprisingly positive views of the communist leader (not sure if this is true though). But maybe there are some speeches of politicians or political publications about this topic.
Other subjects could be the transition process itself, the trials against Ceausescu and his wife or the lustration of the communist nomenklatura (or lack thereof). I know there is a lot about the legacy of communist architecture in Romania, but one of my fellow students already writes about this topic. Anything else about how the communist era is viewed after 1989 could be helpful.
Thank you so much in advance for your help 🙂
