I’m from Slovakia and I’ve always read books in English. For the past 10 years, I remember there have always been many books in English available in basically almost all physical book stores across the country. Even smaller towns usually have a decent English section but in the capital city or even in the second biggest city, there are soo many ailes with English books. The same is true for the Czech Republic (I live there now), the English section is even larger there.
However, I’ve visited many Europeans countries and I’ve never come across such a vast selection of English books anywhere else. The English section is usually very limited. Even in cities where many foreigners live.
For instance on my recent trip to Poland last month, I went to a book store called Empik, I visited two different locations, one had zero English books and the other one had maybe 3 shelves. And I had the same experience in other countries as well.
So I’m not sure if I was just looking in the wrong book stores or if English books are just not as easily available? Do people not read a lot in English or do they just order them online?
