I’ve traveled to a few places and I noticed that the main way of ventilation appears to be opening windows, which I think it great and ecological.
But I wonder why so many windows don’t have screens, even in places with a lot of mosquitoes.
What’s the situation like where you are?

No mosquitos here, hardly any bugs at all. Maybe a single fly once a week. I do like fresh air so I’m glad I can simply open the windows.
I think most people with newer windows here have screens on nowadays. At least on a few windows they tend to open the most. If not built in, you can get cheap nets everywhere that you can cut to size and stick to your windows. Lidl also sells the kind with a frame you can build in yourself.
I do. I’m allergic to mosquitos and window screens, together with the discovery that tea tree oil works amazingly well against bite reactions, have much improved my enjoyment of summer.
Finland is the promised land of mosquitos, so its standard to have nets on windows. Then again, screen doors havent really taken off here. Usual method is to hustle your ass inside and hope you didnt let any visitors in with you.
I bought some nets in 2015 when I moved out from my parents house, still haven’t put them up. I live in the middle of the city center, there’s barely any insects.
In my family home on the countryside we have nets on all the windows though because there your entire house will be crawling with insects if you don’t.
For newer buildings (or ones that have been renovated), they have screens.
But I live in an apartment that hasn’t been renovated since the 70s, when it was built, so no, these don’t have screens. I just suffer all summer.
Didn’t used to be as big of a problem (I feel like).
We would air out the house at least once a day but at some point during the 10s we installed at least one screen per large room because it felt like the amount of insect invaders increased.
I live in a zone with plenty of mosquitoes now so from May till September we live with open windows (yes, open 24/7) and screens. I remember doing the same during my childhood.
Balanced ventilation, so normally no need to open windows.
But if I have to, there is not much bugs around anyways.
I tend to see renovations and new builds in last 10 or so years have screens and ACs for that matter.
Damn bugs eat you otherwise and as for AC, unless you have a river by the house i have no idea how you survive.
We used to have these, but they’re no longer necessary since nearly all the bugs have died.

In Ireland (or at least the West of Ireland), we have a shitload of fly species. But its like rural Irish tradition for all windows and the back door to be open as we don’t have ventilation in our houses. Many houses also must light a fire to heat water to wash dishes and to have a shower. So we keep everything open. We get a shitload of flies coming in and out of the house. But mosquitoes not really. We have mosquitoes and midges. But they don’t really come into houses as they generally live around trees and in marshy/boggy areas and slow water. So they generally don’t come into homes. But if you step outside, you’ll be eaten alive in the summer. Unless it’s windy
