Do the large majority of businesses in tourist areas of Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam accept Visa?
August 7, 2024
The trip will be about 7 nights in total. I will be bringing a bit of cash for emergencies, but for the most part, I want to use my Visa. I am from Canada.

Yes… why wouldn’t they? Visa is one of, if not, the biggest credit/debit card company in the world and is widely used in Europe. if you asked about Amex it would be understandable, but it’s literally Visa lol. Bringing cash for Germany is a good idea.
Not so much in Germany. I’d bring cash to do stuff there
In Germany you can only pay with cash in a lot of places. A debitcard can be used almost everywhere in the Netherlands, but I don’t think the same goes for a creditcard. In Prague I think you can pay most things with a debitcard as well, no experience with a creditcard.
I live in Berlin and in the past year I feel like CC acceptance rate has gone up a lot. It’s still not guaranteed though. Some smaller businesses are cash only and some have minimum amounts for card payment.
I usually carry some cash just in case. But if you figure out you need more cash you just go to an ATM and get some.
always have some cash with you. i was surprised by how many times i had to use cash when travelling abroad.
Germany is more cash oriented, you’re going to run into cash-only businesses in Berlin. Card acceptance has gone up in Germany since covid but it’s still normal to see cafes, bars or shops that only take cash.
Amsterdam and Prague, you’ll probably be able to pay everything by card.
Germany was always cash everything, every where I went. Was there last month and it was apple pay and tapping cards more or less only. Huge shift. Even in a Munich Biergarten.
