Hi EU, I'm looking to understand the development of early electronic music better, and my understanding so far is only from the US, where cocaine and crack had a significant influence in the early days of electronic music and hip hop (not necessarily just in the sense of the vibe in the club, but also in the sense of the social conditions artists are responding to). I love 80s electro from Europe, from house to Italo-Disco, and want to know more about the social context of these scenes. Like how in hip hop from the US in the 2010s you can clearly hear the arrival of xanax. Music is always part of a larger ecosystem – not endorsing, condoning or promoting drug use here, just looking to understand which drugs played what role in electronica in Europe in general – including former USSR countries that weren't in the bloc back then.
