In Japanese, that became: 白鯨との闘い (The Fight Against the White Whale) – as you can see it's completely different from the original title. That is because 白鯨 is the Japanese name for Melville's Moby Dick. Also, 闘う is a verb defining something amongst the lines of "to fight (with)"
