What’s your equivalent of a corner shop/dairy/späti/kiosk?

I guess the small nearby shop that you might go to buy a newspaper or perhaps a box of eggs when you've run out.

In the UK it was usually on the corner of a street, hence 'corner' shop. No idea about the NZ 'dairy' but it sounds funny.
