Along with the EC, I have been following Copa America a bit. They seem to be pretty wild đ so much drama! Yesterday during Uruguay vs Columbia, there was a big brawl, also including the players. And reading about this, I learned that in US sports venues (where the Copa is taking place), there’s no separation between the fans of two teams. Everyone sits where they want. And also, everyone writes that brawls and fights are not a thing. Maybe a few drunks that get thrown out by the security, but usually games are peaceful.Â
That would not work in every country đ and seems like it wasn’t the best idea here.Â
What do you think, would non-segragated football stadiums work for your country?Â
And yikes, Biden’s last gaffe made me face palm. Oh. My. God. Biden, please. Go home.
Iâve been so drunk on this one âtheory of (musical) harmoniesâ, itâs actually so beautiful. The thought of harmonies being the divisor set of a number. Itâs more complicated than what Iâm willing to write here, but basically most harmonies weâd use have three prime divisors, and when you map it as a divisor lattice with the greatest common divisor and the least common multiple as operators you get this beautiful âthree dimensionalâ map of the relationships within a given tonality.
Like, I donât think itâs really the ultimate explanation of why things sound harmonious to us, but itâs a really beautiful way to think about harmony and the relationships of notes, or rather the ratios of harmonies.
Really, for the first time in my life I have understood the beauty in mathematics. Too bad I donât know shit about it. To me a lattice is one of those wooden fences.
Have you personally heard about unfair treatment of children due to gender/sex among people youâve met?
I heard someone at my workplace say that girls werenât allowed video games in her family (also described them as religious lunatics). A relative from my extended family seemed to have liked putting a tighter leash around her daughter than her son; but that may have been because the daughter was a alot bigger of an asshole so IDK.
Ipoh,Perak.
This is a nice small city not too far from the Cameron Highlands, but much lower (so warmer).
Very historical city, dominated by Chinese Malaysians.Kind of like a mini Georgetown Penang I guess.
It’s famous for food here,so we’re trying all the local specialities.
It’s also famous for Chinese herbal and medicinal drinks. We went to a kind of museum today where they gave us some to try, explaining all the supposed benefits of each drink.. very interesting!
Attended the Taylor Swift Eras tour in Zurich. A few thoughts.
* She’s an incredible performer and entertainer. Show was over 3 hours and she was great from start to finish.
* I now understand what the hype is about. The concert is extremely well done. Though one criticism could be that it’s the same exact concert in every location down to the speeches she gives to the crowd.
* Paid facevalue for tickets (though I bought them over a year ago). Met people that paid 3-4X the amount for them on the secondary market. Likewise there were tons of Americans that flew in for the show.
* Speaking of Americans (I am one). I’ve never seen so many Americans congregated in one location in Switzerland. It was odd.
* Crowd vibe was totally different than most concerts considering it was mostly teenagers, families, and women. No pushing/rushing the stage. Everyone really down to earth.
* Post concert crowd control was top notch by the staff/city of Zurich. They basically lined up 20 trams back to back to back to back… to get everyone back to the center of town.
We’re sitting in a noodle place in Ipoh… they have just played ‘Dragostea Din Tei’ twice in a row,it was so popular with the locals (singing along) that they repeated it.
